We come together today to remember a fallen soul. One who died in service to country, fulfilling the obligations placed upon him/her by his/her duty. It is not our place to attempt to justify the meaning of his/her death, but to pay respect to him/her by conducting ourselves with honor in his/her memory. We do not seek to exalt ourselves, but to remain humble and dignified as we observe these solemn and sacred proceedings.

The war front which claimed this precious life still seeks to bring pain and despair to his/her loved ones. It is not a war of guns and bombs, but of vicious words and undesirable behavior. Today we come as part of a mighty host, to use our God-given rights as decent human beings to fend off the baying hounds of discord and dishonor. We pray to the Almighty that their malevolent efforts may work to benefit the cause of nobility and fidelity, as we stand and act as shields for these good people. To allow such shameful and despicable displays of false zeal to take place at this hallowed service would be treason on our part to the dead whose actions were in the name of the freedoms we so selfishly enjoy.

Onward we shall march, as to war, but with peace and the love of God in our hearts. We bear no weapons this day except the sword of the Spirit and the shield of Faith. Raise now the colors under which so many have bled and suffered that our nation might be free and great. And pray for the souls of those who tread these colors underfoot and blaspheme the name of the Lord, that they may be turned from their deviant ways. We are the defenders of the fallen, appointed by conscience and sustained by the grace of God, who has given us this time to mourn and remember.

Our lives are short, as this occasion so somberly reminds us, but in that brief span of time is the opportunity to do what is right. In (insert name here)'s honor, we will carry out the mission that has been handed to us. We will win this war at home. All that I ask is that all of you find the courage to believe and hold fast, as he/she held fast until the very end.

Thank you, and God bless.
A prayer I wrote in response to the court decision to allow the Westboro Baptist Church to obnoxiously promote their hateful theology at military funerals.

Never forget the fallen.

Westboro and all Christian, Islamic and otherwise blasphemous religious bigots spend their lives pouring their precious God's evil and cruelty over everyone they meet in the hopes that they can spend eternity in heaven with their beloved deity. And mark my words they will get their heaven, and they will be trapped with their sick, sadistic deity for all eternity. They might not like what they find when they get there.

You line your own nest when it comes to the afterlife. If they spend their lives hating gays for being different, then I sincerely hope they enjoy sucking their precious God's big smelly disgusting (chicken) until the end of time.

Anyway an excellent piece here. Is this the official prayer of the Riders?

makes it illegal to use a word "nigger".
but it is perfectly fine to protest a military funeral right in front of relatives of the fallen.

fuck you obama, fuck you.
and fuck WBC too, they should be in hell soon.

protesting a military funeral is not "freedom of speech", it is pure ignorance, see how much "freedom" can screw up people sometimes?

Great speech! I can definitely imagine it being read at actual military funerals.

Weren't you going to release some blog post for Halo Fanon on Memorial Day, though?

A great piece. My only suggestion here, is that it seems more a eulogy, than a prayer. But I do agree with all you say.
